Service Description

In this workshop, Evan will guide participants to learn the entire hand paper making process, working to make gathered plants into paper suitable for other crafts. Day 1: Students will first work together to cook, wash, and beat the raw plant fiber into enough pulp stock for the whole class. Next, they will learn how to form each sheet by using a mold and deckle. Sheets will then be dried and flattened for later use. Day 2: Participants will return to learn how to stitch their newly produced paper into ready-to-use sketchbooks. There will also be discussion on how this practice can be broadened to use recycled / waste fibers. Each student will leave with their hand-bound signature that they made in collaboration with the group as well as information on how to set up and start making paper at home. Evan is the founder and owner of Fred Paper Co. in Lawrence, KS. "The aim of Fred Paper Co. is to produce beautiful papers using the abundant waste of other industries, and to preserve the craft of hand paper making."
